The Morton A. Brody Distinguished Judicial Service Award – 2024

Call for Nominations:

     Nominations are requested for the 2024 Morton A. Brody Distinguished Judicial Service Award. The award, established in 2000, is given biennially by the Colby College Board of Trustees to a United States federal judge, or state judge, in memory of the Honorable Morton A. Brody, U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Maine. It includes the delivery of the Brody Address and participation in an event sponsored by Colby’s Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs which will occur in November 2024 in Rockport, Maine.
     The award winner will have demonstrated an appreciation and understanding of the unique role of a judge and someone who exhibits the qualities of integrity, compassion, humanity, and judicial excellence exemplified in the life and work of Judge Brody. The Selection Committee, chaired by Chief United States District Judge Lance E. Walker, for the District of Maine, will take special note of a candidate’s interest in teaching and support of students, including his/her law clerks.

2014: Hon. D. Brock Hornby, U.S. District Judge for the District of Maine and former Associate Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
2012: Hon. Wallace Jefferson, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Texas.
2010: Hon. Nancy Gertner, U.S. District Judge for the District of Massachusetts.
2008: Hon. Leonie M. Brinkema, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia.
2006: Hon. Frank M. Coffin, U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
2004: Hon. Richard Sheppard Arnold, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
2002: Hon. Ann Claire Williams, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
2001: Hon. Guido Calabresi, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
